Addictions

Addiction: When a person has a strong physical or psychological need or urge to do something or use something that has a negative effect on their life, despite the detrimental consequences can feel powerless and unable  to stop.

In most cases but not all, addiction is a psychological hook that keeps people in an unwanted loop, repeating behaviours that no longer give them pleasure or benefit.

These behaviours can very successfully be dealt with, with the right support and motivation.

It’s all about breaking the routine of a habit and thought process, replacing it with positive and rewarding things that inspire change.

Positive outcomes can be achieved using a variety of methods that are available to us.

The list of things that people can become addicted to is too long to list here, so I will only list a few of the more notable ones below:

  • Alcohol (Alcoholism and Binge drinking).
  • Smoking.
  • Drugs (cocaine, poppers, cannabis etc).
  • Gambling
